Mountain bikes are designed for off-road cycling and not for roads. The tyres on mountain bikes are thicker and more durable as they will be travelling over a variety of surfaces, including rocks, roots, mud, sand and dirt. Mountain bike tyres have more air in them which reduces the risk of punctures.
Why are mountain bike tires thick?
